How To Clean And Store Your Designer Wedding Shoes

The biggest and most important day of your life has come and gone. You are now happily married with your husband, and you are ready to start a new life together. The visitors are gone, you can now rest, and the two of you could finally spend some time together.

So what are you going to do about your bridal apparel now that the ceremony is over? It would be a waste to just throw them away, right? A better idea is to keep them until they are needed again, perhaps for your future daughter's, a niece's, or a friend's wedding. Here some tips on keeping your bridal apparel last longer in storage, particularly designer wedding shoes.

1. Your shoes are going to be a bit soiled after the ceremony, especially if the ceremony or reception was held outdoors. Start cleaning them by wiping each shoe gently with a soft, dry cloth. This gets rid of surface dust and dirt.

2. Pour some water in a small bucket or container. Add two or more drops of mild, liquid hand-washing soap to the water. Blend thoroughly with the water around to create a bubbly solution.

3. Soak a microfiber or non-abrasive sponge into the solution. Squeeze to remove excess water then wipe the shoes with the damp sponge. This will get rid of the stains, embedded dirt, and encrusted dust.

4. Dry the shoes naturally by hanging them on a clothesline.

5. If your shoes are made of patent leather, do the same procedure. However, after scrubbing or swabbing the shoes with the cleaning solution, put a tablespoon of mineral oil in a bowl. Dip a clean swath of cloth in the oil and rub scruff marks off the leather. Buff with a dry cloth after the scruff marks are removed.

6. Store the footwear in a cool, dry place. To protect them from bugs, add a couple of mothballs in the compartment where you intend to store them.
