Hannah Montana is of Disney Channel’s TV shows that constantly scale the Billboard Top 200 charts, with “High School Musical” and “The Cheetah Girls” sharing the limelight as far as the music scene is concerned. Hannah Montana songs proved to have successfully captured the fancy of the younger generation in the US and around the world.
Miley Cyrus, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus’s (of the “Achy Breaky Heart” fame) daughter topbills the show with Billy Ray Cyrus himself playing as Miley’s characters father. This Disney Channel character Hannah Montana (as played by Miley) is a talented tween who lives with Billy Ray Cyrus and her older brother. Most of the scenes are either at home or at school where she plays the character “Miley” who has a secret life as a blonde pop superstar. No one knows this secret identity except Miley’s two best friends who never fail to protect “Hannah Montana’s” real character.

Just like the two High School Musical movies that have earned millions in record sales, the Hannah Montana songs which are sung by Miley Cyrus have also been raking in tons of money as well as giving the singer a superstar status. In 2006 alone, Hanna Montana songs pervaded Billboard Top 5 rankings just right after the triple platinum “High School Musical” topped the charts twice.
The soundtrack, containing Hannah Montana songs, was the first soundtrack from a TV series that debuted on the number slot in the Billboard charts. While another Disney Channel production, “High School Musical,” became number one on the charts, it is classified as a TV movie and not a series. This makes the soundtrack of Hannah Montana the first from a TV series to officially hold a number one position.
Hannah Montana songs propelled the show’s soundtrack to debut at number 1 on the Billboard Top 100 with more than 280,000 copies sold on the first week. It stayed on the number one position at the Billboard Top 100 on the second week and sold more than 203,000 copies. This record surpassed the debut performance of legendary Barry Manilow when he launched his album, “The Greatest Songs of the Sixties.”
On its third week, Hannah Montana songs fell on the number 5 position and stayed there for another week. It rose back to number 2 on the sixth week and fluctuated several times while making the soundtrack attain certified gold status.
