About Video Game Addictions

An addictive personality disorder may be the main reason for addiction to games. Most people think video gaming addiction is not bad, but the result of this kind of addiction can be hazardous. A main factor that contributes to this kind of addiction is the sense of achievement that the player feels after he has finished a level.

If there is another type of addiction that is similar to this, it would be gambling addiction. Gambling addicts don't stop until they get a win, like a gamer doesn't stop until he reaches a level or kills the enemy. The need to achieve something is similar in both gambling and gaming addicts. Once the need for reward is satisfied, the addict wants more.

What are the signs that a person is addicted to video games? A person may be a gaming addict if he cannot stay away from a game. As with other addictions, video gaming can become a problem if a person feels that he should disregard everything else in order to focus on his game. It's true that gamers hole themselves up for days just to finish a game. Insomnia and other sleep disorders may arise from this habit. Because the gamer is immersed into his game, he doesn’t consider other people important. More often than not, the games take precedence over family or friendships. A gamer would often forget what time it is, or what he needs to do that day.

Unlike drug addiction, there is no rehabilitation center for video game addicts. One way to beat this is to go on vacation, preferably in a place with not many electronics. The long break may change his perspective. Once a video gaming addict moves far away from his games, he may or may not realize that there is a better world out there.

In conclusion, video game addictions can happen to any gamers so you have to be aware of the dangers the addictions brings.
